The Jackson community is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Cortez George, who was killed in a deadly shooting following Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Authorities confirmed the incident occurred near the intersection of Lamar and Pearl Streets, an area still filled with celebratory crowds when gunfire erupted.
Cortez suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Hinds County Interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard.
Several others were also injured during the shooting, though the number of victims and their conditions have not yet been made public.
Police are still searching for the suspect, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
Cortez George was remembered by loved ones as a vibrant and kind-hearted young man whose life ended far too soon.
“He was a beloved son and friend who will be deeply missed,” a grieving family member shared, capturing the heartbreak felt throughout the community.
